Dear Teachers, friends:

Warm Greetings to each one of you,

I Dr. Arunkumar Umesh Prasad (彭易阳), from just a common fresher MBBS student at TSMU (SFMU) to the President of the International Students Union to a young researcher under the guidance and supervision of our dean Prof. Sun Baoliang, the journey was never less than a roller coaster throughout, had good times, bad times but family, friends, teachers made my journey one of the most interesting and memorable in my life.

I still remember the first day when I left my past and regrets behind and went around the campus in November 2012 it was chilling cold out there, miles away from home and family but the warm guidance and help from Mr. Michael and our senior helped me understand and know everything. That was the day where I got selected as the Class Representative and then the most interesting ride of my life started. Got a Chinese name as 彭易阳 which was similar to my Indian name. Life was getting more formal to me at this juncture, got to know many people, students from all around the world and most interesting our beloved office members, Mr. Fung, Mr. Michael, Ms. Cherry, Mrs. Li, Ms. li who were always out there to help and support in every condition I had to face. Quality and understanding of life were upgrading and people around me made me make this. As a young energetic teen full of heat and aggression which is bad for academics (trust me) was not going well for me, this is where my teachers backed me up, let it be my Chinese Teaching faculty or the Foreign Teaching faculty each of my teacher has taught something which helped to get in the field of medicine, a better understanding and learning towards the subject. Let it be theory or practical teachers made things so smooth and the Academic part and interest towards medicine was more understanding now. As years were passing I got elected as the Leader of Discipline then The General Secretary, Vice President and then The President of the International Students Union. Name, Fame and Respect were earned by this time which made me more confident and stable with my decisions, my learning and understanding.

In 2014, I got to know a teaching faculty as “Sir Maxwell” (our Biochemistry faculty) at the start I never knew he would play a crucial role but now he is one of the most important people in my life. He cleared the picture about the depth of medicine, the core of the human body, and the molecules which made my mind think beyond the books and here the thirst for research initiated. This thirst and enthusiasm helped me get along with our Dean “Prof. Sun Baoliang”, where he gave me a chance to get involved and be a part of the research studies. Things got very well I grabbed the opportunity to present the research at The Royal Society of Medicine, London in 2017, followed by an International conference in Osaka, Japan. Later on completion of my studies, I joined my internship at the Shandong Provincial Qian Foshan Hospital, Jinan. This one year internship was way faster and smart than my university time, where the focus was only on Medicine to be an amazing skillful Doctor. Professors, Doctors and the staff at the hospital taught and made us understand every detail of this healthcare profession. I got to get close to patients, assist surgeries which sometimes lasted more than 12 hours, practical session, night duties, learning, conference, medical lectures and meeting developed my skills from a level Good to an Excellent grade. As the internship was getting close to an end, I was very confident and determined towards my patients and my responsibilities towards my work.

Time just flew like the autumn leaves, it was my Graduation and deep within I knew this would be my last days at this campus as a student and I am going to step into a world where I need to be responsible, honest, determined and energetic and yes I was confident, very confident as my learning understanding throughout the years helped me achieve this. Graduation was a day where my feelings were full of Joy, Happiness and sad which lead to tears in my eyes thinking how will I be able to leave but Teachers, Family, office members, colleagues, friends were still beside me and everyone said the same thing, “You are leaving the campus physically for the betterment of the world, to serve the people around you, to help them, to treat them you are now a Doctor and you will always stay in our heart your presence will always be missed in this campus” and tears of joy flooded out of me. The happiness, the pleasure, the moment is unforgettable throughout my life. I was very happy words are short to describe that feeling but what else could be an amazing end where you started with a speech at the Matriculation ceremony and ended with a speech at the Graduation ceremony.

The Journey just didn’t teach me Medicine but also taught me the true value of life, the essence of happiness, the joy of responsibility, understanding and a positive attitude towards life.

As I conclude, I would like to say this to all my junior colleagues and students coming to TSMU (SFMU) Your life in TSMU (SFMU) is like a blank book,Your surroundings, your teachers, and your friends together form the pen in your hand. This is your chance to forget all the regrets of your past and write a new and wonderful story which ends with you becoming a successful DOCTOR.
